Hushabye Mountain

A gentle breeze from Hushabye Mountain
Softly blows o'er lullaby bay.
It fills the sails of boats that are waiting--
Waiting to sail your worries away.
It isn't far to Hushabye Mountain
And your boat waits down by the quay.
The winds of night so softly are sighing--
Soon they will fly your troubles to sea.
So close your eyes on Hushabye Mountain.
Wave good-bye to cares of the day.
And watch your boat from Hushabye Mountain
Sail far away from lullaby bay.

This is one of my favourite 'Paper Moon portraits' I created last year. I hope this isn't cheating in the land of blogging, but I wanted to repost it now that I have a few more followers, and I am finally learning about linking up etc. I was inspired to set this up to go along with Jack's favourite lullaby, 'Hushabye Mountain'. We sing it to him so often. We find it really comforts him.

I used his baby bath for the boat, wrapped in blue paper, and photoshopped the edge. The boat sail is made from a large sheet of paper taped to a brush handle, and the sea is made from blue fabric with blue net on top to create waves. The mountains are again made from paper, and the stars and moon are added with photoshop. It was all set against my black backdrop.

I love creating these portraits, they're fun, and a different way to break up a photo album. However, they're time consuming and make a lot of mess! It also makes for a very pressurized shoot. Imagine trying to get Jack to look at the camera (and smile too, although that doesn't always happen, and I have made my peace with that), then of course I have to try and get him sit in the right position without moving, and get the shot before he tears the paper scene to smithereens! Which is why I suppose I haven't made one in a couple of months. But that's going to change. I'm going to repost a few more of my favourites in the next few days, and then I'll get to work on a new scene. Any ideas would be considered for sure!

Look at mini Jack sitting in his wee boat... that was only a few months ago and he has changed so much!
