This photo of wee Jacko was taken against my pink fabric backdrop with some natural sunlight flooding in from above along with my new Nikon SB-800 flash and diffuser.
To be honest, I haven't quite got the knack of this flash. There is no doubt I am no longer missing good shots in low light. But the resulting photos aren't pretty. And against my backdrops the flash creates shadows and harshness. I knew this would be the case, but with the dull days I needed something to help me catch the shot. I'm still thrilled to have the SB-800, and I will use it regularly, but if at all possible I will be using natural light to take portraits of Jack. And I'll keep practicing with improving flash-lit photos.
I do love this photo of him though!
Now Jack and I are off to baby gymnastics. He loves it!

What a precious child and nothing wrong with his shadow either. I think you did great.
ReplyDeleteLovely look of quiet, questioning surprise on Jack's face! Lovely, subtle, shadowy bokeh highlights his face!
